AMRITSAR News : Teen girl dies, 5 injured as houses collapse in AMRITSAR
AMRITSAR: A teenaged girl died while five others sustained injuries after two old buildings came crashing down due to heavy rain at Katra Ahluwalia in the walled city on Friday.
The three-storied houses were in a dilapidated condition and as they caved in, a 19-year-old girl Bharti was buried under the rubble while five got injured, said eyewitnesses.
The injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and their condition is reported to be stable.
Fire security officer Tarlochan Singh said that the squad had a tough time reaching the place located in a narrow lane and carrying out the rescue operation amid the downpour.
The two buildings -- bearing number 1461 and 1462 -- belonged to Kewal Kumar and Kamlesh Rani respectively.
Municipal town planner Shakti Sagar Bhatia said the buildings had not been declared dangerous by the department. "It is the duty of area residents to inform us about any such dangerous structures so we can take action," he said.
