GURGAON: The Haryana Urban Development Authority has blamed the National High Authority of India for the mess at Hero Honda Chowk last night. The five water cleaning pumps installed at the crossing did not function because of erratic power supply.
According to HUDA officials, the pumps were not pressed into action during the night because of faltering voltage. As soon as rain lashed the city, a stream of rainwater on either side of Hero Honda Chowk started flowing, throwing traffic out of gear for hours on Wednesday. The pumps were installed at the crossing by HUDA and the Gurgaon Municipal Corporation. But during monsoon, the water situation worsens, causing traffic jams. When the situation did not improve till Wednesday morning, a team of HUDA officials visited the site and found the pumps without any power back up.
"Ideally, the NHAI should employ some people to coordinate with the water pump operators at the site. Since, there was low power, pump operators did not work," said a senior HUDA official who visited the site on Wednesday. The HUDA officials were running around to ensure the water pumps function throughout the day. "Today, all the pumps were connected to DG set to ensure regular power. Now, this is something which should have been done in the night itself. There is no coordination and the purpose of having water clearing pumps was defeated when it was needed most," said the HUDA official.
